SANTA MARIA ACAPULCO 7
SAN LUIS POTOSI
Image #1108
In the Sierra Gorda of the state of San Luis Potosi, the church of Holy Maria (Santa Maria) had remained unknown and unchanged since its founding in the 1750s. It is an area of the Pamés, one of the last remaining tribes of the Chichimecas, where that language is still spoken. The last known church in Mexico with a thatch roof, it was completely destroyed by a lighting strike on 1 July 2007.
